What is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-exploration game developed by KONAMI and Evil Empire, with advisory support from Motion Twin. KONAMI’s launch announcement dates its release to October 15, 2026 on Steam and consoles.

The adventure follows Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, through Paris in 1499. It takes place 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Monsters have overrun the city, and Rose’s journey leads through its burning streets and toward Dracula’s castle. Her cursed right arm is part of the premise introduced in the official character profiles.

Explore, unlock abilities and return to blocked routes

Searching beyond the main route can uncover hidden rooms, equipment and upgrades. Progress also changes how Rose moves through the environment: a gap or anchor that cannot be used at first may become a route after an ability unlock.

The Arcane Whip connects traversal and combat. KONAMI shows it carrying Rose between anchor points and opening access to previously unreachable places. It also creates ways to approach enemies and attack from different positions. The official exploration announcement describes the whip’s role in reaching secrets and navigating hazards.

This creates a cycle of exploring available paths, confronting their obstacles, gaining tools and returning with new options. If you have already started and are unsure about an early blocked route, our opening exploration and whip guide explains the clues and unlocks relevant to that stage.

Build a fighting style with weapons, Relics and Arcana

The game offers seven weapon categories, alongside offensive and defensive Relics. Equipment changes your available fighting options as you explore; the whip’s movement gives those choices another use when approaching an enemy.

Defeated bosses can be sealed into tarot cards called Arcana. These grant spells and special actions, so a boss reward may matter for both the next fight and the next stretch of exploration. KONAMI’s official systems overview introduces weapons, Relics and Arcana.

After an unlock, consider which obstacle it helps with, where you can test it, and whether a previously seen route is now reachable. The beginner guide follows that approach through the opening area.

Gothic spaces, puzzles and traps

The setting combines gothic architecture with vividly colored environments. Hidden rooms and puzzles give reasons to inspect a location, while traps and platforming hazards make the route itself part of the challenge. The existing official screenshot above shows the relationship between anchor-based movement and the space below Rose.

KONAMI credits Daniel ASADI with the soundtrack in its launch announcement.
