Find new ingredients, check the station named by your recipe unlock, and cook before leaving camp. In version 1.0.50.0, Leather unlocks the Cooking Table blueprint. A recipe missing from your Crafting menu may belong to the Workbench or Cooking Table instead. In co-op, let each character pick up new discoveries.

How do you unlock the Cooking Table?

Pick up Leather to unlock the Cooking Table blueprint in version 1.0.50.0. The October 21 patch changed this prerequisite from Corn, so a launch-week guide sending you to find corn for this unlock is describing the older version.

The developer gives two ways to obtain Leather: find it deeper in the dungeon, or craft it at a Workbench using Animal Hide from Rats. Once you have the blueprint, check its displayed construction materials and build the table at camp. A Cooking Table you find in the dungeon can also provide access to its recipes.

If you already have Leather but a friend has the blueprint and you do not, let your character pick up the material. Discovering an item in another player’s inventory is different from discovering it yourself.

Why is a newly unlocked recipe missing?

Check where the recipe is made. Deep Dish Dungeon divides recipes between your regular Crafting menu and equipment such as the Workbench and Cooking Table. An unlock notification can refer to a station you are not currently using.

Work through these steps:

  1. Read the unlock notification and note the item or station it names.
  2. Check your character’s Crafting menu for recipes made without a workstation.
  3. Inspect the Workbench for its crafting recipes.
  4. Use a Cooking Table for recipes assigned to that station.
  5. Gather the materials shown by the recipe you want to make.

This is especially useful when a notification appears while you are exploring. Returning to camp and opening only the regular Crafting menu can make a successful discovery look like a missing recipe.

How should you prepare food for an expedition?

Use camp as a place to prepare for the route ahead. Cooking helps you enter the dungeon with the health, stamina or other effects you need, while gathering ingredients and discovering equipment expands your options.

Before setting off:

  • Decide what is limiting your next attempt: surviving damage, keeping enough stamina, or reaching a place that needs an ability.
  • Inspect the meals and effects available at your current equipment.
  • Cook and eat for that task, then check your character’s condition before leaving camp.
  • Bring newly found ingredients back so you can inspect the recipes they open.

The developer’s cooking introduction names ingredients including apples, meat, mushrooms, corn, cassava, tomatoes, beans and cilantro. Its dishes include meat-and-mushroom stew, Shepherd’s Pie, ramen, pastel and cassava fritters. Treat those as things to discover as you progress: the station and ingredient requirements shown in your game determine what you can cook now.

Food supports the journey while its effects last. When your stomach empties, prepare another meal before repeating a difficult route. Herbs can also change an existing dish, giving you another reason to inspect what you gather rather than discard unfamiliar ingredients.

Why can a co-op friend craft something I cannot?

Players have reported discovering recipes separately for each character. A friend finding a tool or ingredient does not automatically make its discoveries visible to everyone else.

When your group finds something new, pass it around so each character can pick it up. Then have everyone check the appropriate station. This is particularly useful for tools that one player has carried for the whole expedition.

Our Deep Dish Dungeon co-op guide covers the three-player limit, joining a session, crossplay and the Demo-save transition.

What changed in the current patch?

The official 1.0.50.0 notes change the Cooking Table unlock to Leather and repair several multiplayer problems. If an older walkthrough’s unlock advice differs from your game, check this version change before spending another trip looking for Corn.
