Probably Stolen theft and insurance guide: protect your shop overnight
Enable nightly insurance, power an Alarm System, read burglary and recovery messages, and distinguish theft from vandalism before paying for protection.

Expensive equipment can disappear overnight even when you own an alarm. Start by checking which protection is actually active, then use the morning report to distinguish a stopped burglary, an uninsured loss and an insured recovery. This guide covers Demo 050-Rev5-L.
Arrange insurance before confirming sleep
Joe Wild introduces a daily insurance service. Once it is available:
- Close the shop, finish your evening activities and choose Sleep to open the end-of-day screen.
- Select Insurance Service in the services list. This choice covers the coming night; meeting Wild is not a permanent policy.
- Read Total Cost, Current Balance and New Balance. If selected services would leave a negative balance, the confirmation button is disabled. Reduce optional spending or raise the cash before confirming.
- Confirm sleep, then check the insurance entry in the morning report.
Paid insurance returns goods stolen during that night the next morning. Recovery is handled by the overnight result; it is not a cash payment based on your asking price. If losing one machine would halt your business, reserve the premium before buying another upgrade.

Install and power the Alarm System
Alarm System and its separate power cell
After receiving Dr. Jackson’s invitation, close your shop and visit his store from the map. Check his current stock for an Alarm System; the shop guide explains the entrance and stock conditions.
- Double-click the Alarm System to open it.
- Put a charged
Energy Cell in its dedicated Power Source slot. A cell elsewhere in storage does not power it. - Read the alarm’s current energy requirement and check that the cell can cover it before sleeping.
- Review the displayed theft-prevention rate. Buying the device alone does not establish that it is powered tonight.
The shop’s electricity service does not insert a battery into the alarm. Use the charging guide when the cell runs low.
The Alarm System is a shop device. The button under your counter reports the current visitor to Security; pressing that button does not buy insurance or prepare nighttime protection.

Choose modules for the protection you need
The alarm’s note describes three different module effects:
| Module attribute | Effect on the alarm |
|---|---|
| Performance | Increases the theft-prevention bonus |
| Efficiency | Changes power consumption |
| Quality | Has no effect |
Use a
Performance Module when you want a higher prevention rate. After changing modules, check both the rate and the nightly energy requirement again. The module guide explains installation, extraction and expansion.
An Alarm Transmitter Module sends camera footage to a chosen faction for reputation. It is a different module function, not a substitute for a charged power source or an insurance policy.
Read the complete morning report
Read the whole entry before deciding an item is permanently lost.
| Morning result | What to do |
|---|---|
| Insurance paid | Coverage applied for that night |
| Not covered; days since last coverage | Recheck the next night’s insurance selection |
| Alarm triggered; thief left empty-handed | The alarm stopped that burglary |
| Alarm failed, or a named item was stolen | Check the insurance/recovery entry and your inventory |
| Wild’s men returned the stolen item | The insured recovery is already part of the morning result |
An insured report can mention theft and recovery in the same sentence. A night without a burglary does not prove insurance will remain selected or that a depleted alarm cell will work tomorrow.

Check changing premiums and access
Read the current premium rather than copying a fixed price from an old video. The charge changes with the game’s estimated wealth and applicable modifiers. Lower Levels’ Marked penalty raises the premium; Black Market’s Uninsurable penalty removes access. These are different problems.
Check the active reputation effects if insurance becomes expensive or unavailable. The Lower Levels and Black Market pages explain those relationships.
The Vigilant starting trait prevents nighttime robbery. Check your chosen traits before spending on this particular risk; see the starting-scenario guide.
Deal with vandalism separately
A smashed storefront is a vandalism event. Burglary insurance does not clean the damage or restore the shop’s appeal.
When the morning report says the store was vandalized, check the current Janitorial Service quote and select that service before the next sleep. Cleanup costs more while the shop is vandalized. The cleanup entry in the next report confirms the damage was cleared.
Ordinary cleaning also empties the trash can and helps maintain attractiveness. Check the bin before paying. Security confiscation is another separate loss: use the crime and hidden-storage guide for contraband and inspections.
Your closing checklist
- Select the insurance you want for this night and check the end-of-day balance.
- Open the alarm, check its cell and compare remaining energy with the current requirement.
- After module changes, reread the prevention rate and power use.
- If the storefront was vandalized, select cleanup and inspect the trash can first.
- Next morning, read the insurance, burglary and recovery entries together before replacing equipment.
Keep rent money separate from upgrade spending. The rent and shop-ownership guide explains the bills that still need paying.
Cleaning steps, fees and the attractiveness penalty are covered in the cleaning guide.
