Where do you get modules and extraction tools?

After closing your shop, visit Dr. Jackson’s shop and check the stock for Efficiency, Performance and Quality modules, the Advanced Module Extractor and Module Bay Expansion Kits. The extractor and expansion kit can appear at random.

After you take the Retired Junker’s machine-scrapping lesson, his later visits sell Basic Module Extractors. Electronic Parts (Common), used to refurbish them, are covered in the repair-tools guide.

How do you install a module?

General machine modules

1. Open the machine you want to upgrade and find its module bay.
2. Check the module’s type against the machine’s accepted types. Make room for its shape.
3. Place the compatible module in the bay.
4. Read the updated machine stats, then prepare its cell and materials.

Ordinary machines generally take universal modules. Special equipment may need dedicated ones. A Cryptographic Desequencer uses permission chips to choose what it writes; general modules adjust its operating stats. Chemical Equipment Modules improve the Blender, Heating Plate and Chem Finisher, and require an extractor for removal once installed.

What do Efficiency, Performance and Quality change?

A stat’s effect depends on the machine. Read its instructions before choosing an upgrade.

Check the whole module, including bonuses, penalties and additional effects. Its name does not describe every stat. If power is the problem, compare Efficiency with the machine’s current consumption. See energy cells and charging for the power setup.

How do you remove a stuck module?

Module extractors

Some modules in salvaged machines show “Stuck. Requires a Module Extractor.” Use the tool on the stuck module itself.

1. Open the machine’s module bay and find the stuck module.
2. Apply a Module Extractor to that module.
3. Once it is unstuck, take it out or move it.

A new Basic Extractor has 6 uses. Each successful extraction costs one use. The Advanced Extractor does not degrade with use. Check the basic tool’s remaining count before removing several modules.

How do you refurbish a Basic Extractor?

Electronic Parts (Common)

Use Electronic Parts on a Basic Module Extractor. This restores up to 4 uses, but reduces its maximum count by one. The restored count cannot exceed the new maximum, and the parts are consumed.

For example, an unrefurbished extractor at 0/6 becomes 4/5 after refurbishment. Repeating the process keeps reducing the maximum; it does not restore the tool permanently to a new 6/6 condition.

How do you expand the module bay?

Module Bay Expansion Kit

Use a Module Bay Expansion Kit on a standard machine you own that still accepts an expansion. This enlarges the available bay space and consumes the kit. A standard machine can receive up to two expansions.

Chemical and other special machines are incompatible. Check the target and its free space before buying a kit. The expansion adds room; modules must be supplied separately.
