How do you fill a bottle or move liquid?

Use the container holding the liquid on the container that will receive it. Both must belong to you. Drag the source onto the receiver, check that the tooltip says Use the source on the receiver, then release.

  1. Choose a receiving bottle with room left. An empty bottle keeps the new batch separate from existing liquid.
  2. Drag the full or partly full source container onto it.
  3. After pouring, check both containers. The receiver takes as much as it can hold; the rest stays in the source.
  4. Repeat with another receiver if you want to split a large batch into smaller bottles.

For example, a full 2,000mL Large bottle can fill an empty 750mL Standard bottle and retain 1,250mL. Using an empty ordinary bottle on the full one does not reverse the direction. Start with the bottle you want to pour from.

Ordinary bottles mix their contents when you pour into them. Moving dirty water to a clean-looking bottle does not purify it. To filter water, fit a filter inside a Water Pitcher and pour into the pitcher; see the water purification guide.

How much does each container hold?

Bottle of Water (Micro)Bottle of Water (Small)Bottle of Water (Standard)

Micro, Small and Standard water bottles

Container Maximum liquid Main use
Bottle of Water (Micro) 250mL Small portions
Bottle of Water (Small) 450mL The printer’s starting output
Bottle of Water (Standard) 750mL One bottle’s worth of finished wine
Bottle of Water (Large) 2,000mL Holding and dividing larger batches
Jug of Water 6,000mL Bulk storage
Water Pitcher 3,000mL Holds a filter for water poured into it
Wine Bottle 750mL Fermenting wine with its built-in airlock

These are maximum capacities. Ordinary bottles can describe their current fill as Empty, Half Full or Full rather than giving an exact remaining volume. Empty containers can be filled again.

Bottle of Water (Large)Jug of WaterWine Bottle with airlock

Large bottle, water jug and Wine Bottle

The jug stores more liquid. The Wine Bottle is the fermentation vessel; pouring water into a Standard water bottle does not give it that fermentation interface.

An Empty Beer Bottle is a junk item. Its bottle shape does not make it a refillable liquid container.

How do you fill a Wine Bottle and transfer finished wine?

Before fermentation, pour water from an ordinary container into the Wine Bottle until it holds 750mL. You can also use a water ration on it: a full ration supplies 750mL, while a small ration supplies 375mL and needs that much free space. The ration is consumed.

Add the ingredients and start fermentation using the berry winemaking guide or the Synthetic Yeast recipe.

Finished wine transfers as a whole 750mL batch. Use the finished Wine Bottle on an owned liquid container with at least 750mL free. An empty Standard bottle works; Micro and Small bottles are too small. The fermentation bottle becomes empty and can be used again. Ordinary water transfers can split between small bottles, but this finished-wine step needs space for the complete batch.

Where do bottles and the printer come from?

Route What you receive
Start as a Water Merchant Bottle Printer with 25 energy, a Large bottle of Ghostwater, a jug of low-grade Rustwater, extra Large, Standard and Small bottles, plus a Water Pitcher and treatment equipment
Joe Wild’s Water Trading referral, base cost 300 credits Water Pitcher, filter, testing and treatment tools, and visiting water traders. This kit does not include the starting printer or the same batch of water and empty bottles
Joe Wild’s Retired Winemaker referral, base cost 200 credits Three Wine Bottles with ordinary yeast, berries and other winemaking supplies
Use a Bottle Printer Make more empty Small bottles; unlock Standard and Large bottles through upgrades

Use the referral guide for buying those introductions. Micro bottles and the 6,000mL jug are separate container types; the printer does not produce them.

How do you operate and upgrade the Bottle Printer?

Bottle Printer

Bottle Printer: makes empty bottles

Printing spends energy and produces an empty container immediately. Fill it from your water stock afterward.

  1. Open the printer’s contents and put a charged Energy Cell in Power Source. See energy cells and charging if it is empty.
  2. Leave enough room for the new bottle in Output.
  3. Press Start Print Process for a Small bottle. Upgraded machines also offer Print Bottle and Print Large Bottle.
  4. Take the empty bottle from Output and use your liquid source on it. No overnight wait or printing material is required.
Printer upgrade count Available bottle Capacity Energy per print
0 Small 450mL 4
3 or more Standard 750mL 6
9 Large 2,000mL 11

To upgrade, use Electronic Parts (Common) on the printer. Each part is consumed and adds one upgrade. Three parts unlock Standard bottles; nine parts in total unlock Large bottles. This is a direct item upgrade.

If a print does nothing, check the cell’s charge, Output space and whether that bottle size is unlocked. A failed print caused by insufficient space does not spend energy.
