How do you use a Scav Scanner?

Take one Scav Scanner with you when you leave the shop. At the Dumping Grounds, its bonus applies automatically when you scavenge. It needs no battery or activation step.

1. Put a scanner you own in your outing inventory or backpack before leaving.
2. After closing, go to the Dumping Grounds on the sector map and choose Scavenge.
3. Check the ground for your finds and pack the goods you want to take home.

A scanner left in the shop does not count. If this is your first outing, the Rock Bottom guide covers carrying goods, returning and wound risks.

Where do you get one?

After closing, look for a Scav Scanner at the shop of Dr. Jackson (the Inventor). Stock is random, so look again later if one is absent. Its catalogue base value is 250 credits; check the actual offer before buying.

What does Double Loot Chance mean?

A new scanner starts at 15%. On a successful scavenging search, it gets a separate chance to add one ordinary scavenged item. The extra item is rolled separately; it need not match the first item.

The tooltip calls this “Double Loot Chance”. It does not double the entire pile, including separate bonus finds. At 100%, the scanner adds its ordinary extra item each successful search. Wounds and the number of searches you can make still follow the scavenging rules.

Hover over the scanner to read its current percentage. One search with no extra item is normal when the chance is below 100%.

How do you upgrade it?

Electronic Parts (Common): scanner upgrades

Use Electronic Parts (Common) on a scanner you own. Each use consumes the parts and raises the chance by 5 percentage points, to a maximum of 100%. Starting from 15%, that takes 17 upgrades to reach the cap.

The upgrade stops accepting parts at 100%. Check the new percentage after applying an upgrade. These are direct item upgrades; there is no module slot to fill.

Can you bring several scanners?

Only one scanner’s benefit applies at a time. Bring the upgraded one and use the remaining carrying room for loot. The scanner occupies a 4-by-3 rectangle, so reserve space for both it and what you expect to find.
